Cat in a Tree, Bat in a Tree! Fire-Rescue does it all! Members of Rescue-Quint 29 and Special Operations 31 stepped out to help the public in a unique way on July 15th. Palm Beach County Environmentalist requested their assistance installing a "bat cave" over Lake Osborne in John Prince Park. The cave, which consists of what appear to be large vertical pipes mounted atop another, is intended to provide a safe habitat for bats in the area and is capable of housing up to 750 of the furry winged creatures. It is reported that these bats can consume 500 mosquitoes in one hour so their presence is considered a blessing to those living and recreating in the area. Quint 29 Firefighters Gary Gill and John Noll installed the equipment while curious residents and media looked on. It appears in some of the photos that they even had to dodge low flying aircraft while completing the task. Oh, the risks we take to save the animals!
