Suspicious Package at the American Media Incorporated Building
November 15th, 2002
-
Tensions ran high
recently when a suspicious package and a bomb threat were received at the new
American Media Incorporated (AMI) building in suburban Delray Beach. Fire crews
from Delray Beach Fire-Rescue were on hand and in Command of the incident while
Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue's Special Operations 31 crews assisted the Palm
Beach County Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
The building was evacuated with the assistance of the Delray Beach Police
Department. A bomb squad technician x-rayed the package which sat directly in
front of the large building. Unable to determine its exact content, the package
was "destroyed" using specialized equipment operated by EOD deputies.
There were no injuries and AMI workers were able to return to their offices
after a few hours of standing by outside.
