Past Hot Shots from 2005

Multiple Trailer Home Fires

January 10 2005 - Fire crews fought two mobile home fires in less that an hour and they were within one block of each other. Initially, a call went out for a fully involved mobile home on 2018 Marks Way in Lake Worth Village Mobile Home Park. On arrival, firefighters found an unoccupied trailer that was heavily involved in fire and radiant heat was beginning to damage a neighboring occupied mobile home. A defensive attack quickly brought the fire under control and only one nearby residence suffered minor exterior damage. About 55 minutes into the incident, as crews were beginning to repack hose, another mobile home, just one block away, went up in flames. It was so close to the original fire that the department’s 3000 gallon water tender, T43, was able to be first on the scene and actually got there within one minute….in reverse. The second fire was quickly extinguished. The investigator, who was already on scene for the first fire, labeled both fires as suspicious. Units on scene for both fires included RE31, R31, E43, R43, DC9, DC10, EMS9, T43, PI1, IV4, I950, E920, RE32, LA34, and Chief 5

Traffic was diverted in all directions to assure the safety of the public.

District Chief Newport, specifically requested the response of Captain Greene who was providing assistance to the ACLS re-certification at the EOC. Chief Newport requested Captain Greene to provide research of the chemicals since the computer system on special operations was down.
