Mutual Aid given to Boynton Beach Fire Rescue as two people are sent to the hospital after a chlorine leak at a local water treatment plant.


August 20th, 2002 - Boynton Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Manalapan Water Treatment Plant for a Liquid Chlorine leak. On arrival B.B.F.R. found a 150lb. tank of 100% Liquid Chlorine leaking from the side of the tank. B.B.F.R. evacuated the workers and bystanders from the surrounding areas and called Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Special Operation Team to mitigate the leak. P.B.C.F.R. Hazardous Materials Technicians Jim Berry and Tom Speerin dressed in fully encapsulating suits to remove the leaking tank and place it into a secondary tank called a casket, which was supplied by Allied Chemical of Fort Pierce.  The B.B.F.R. protected the Haz Mat technicians with fog streams while they placed the leaking tank into the secondary tank.  Two of the three Water Treatment Plant employees were taken to a local hospital to be observed for inhalation injuries, and were later released.

Boynton Beach Fire Rescue units were on scene as well as crews from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Special Operations Team. R19,R31,E31, SO31, District Chief 2, District Chief 3, and District Chief 9
